The race

Malta International Challenge Marathon slide

The Malta International Challenge Marathon is carried out in three stages. The course leads past charming fishing villages and the beautiful Maltese coast. The finish and start locations vary from day to day. On the first day the participants run a flat 16 km run around Sigigewi, then the challenge continues the next day with a fast 5 km run in Marsacala. On the last day the longest distance is run: a half marathon in Buggiba. After that you will have successfully completed the Malta International Challenge. Overall a fantastic challenge!

Course

On Friday, the 10 Miles (16.097 KM) will be run. On Saturday there is a 5KM and on Sunday there is a half marathon. Malta is not flat so please be aware of the differences in altitude.

Tuesday, 21 November 2023

You will fly to Malta today. A transfer to the hotel will be waiting for you at the airport! The Dolmen Resort(****) is the accommodation for this running trip. The hotel is located in the lively town of Buggiba. In the evening, take a stroll along the lively promenade.

Wednesday, 22 November 2023

Today you can collect your start number. You will have the rest of the day to explore the area and prepare yourself. A visit to the Blue Lagoon or the historic city of Valletta is highly recommended.

Thursday, 23 November 2023

Discover Malta! You are completely free to plan this day as you see fit. In the evening, there will be a welcome drink at the hotel. Tomorrow starts the Malta International Challenge, so it is important to be well rested at the start.

Friday, 24 November 2023

First day of the challenge! The first stage is about 16 km long and the starting and finishing point is in Sigigewi. The start is at 1pm. Today's route is flat and thus suitable for a fast time! Tomorrow the 5 km stage is on the programme.

Saturday, 25 November 2023

Day two of the challenge! A short stage of 5km on a flat course means today is all about running a very fast time! Start and finish are in Marsacala today. Tomorrow the half marathon will be run.

Sunday, 26 November 2023

The last day of the challenge! The third day is the longest distance. The start and finish of the half marathon is in Buggiba, just 700 metres from the Dolmen Resort. They start at 08:00. When you cross the finish line, you will have successfully completed the Malta International Challenge Marathon. Congratulations!

Monday, 27 November 2023

Excursion option to Gozo. Today you can join the optional excursion to Gozo (cost EUR 50 per person). The bus leaves at 08:15 and the excursion lasts until 17:00. On Gozo, you can enjoy the fantastic nature and historical buildings this island has to offer. In the evening, the prize-giving ceremony will take place and we expect an entertaining evening!

The last day of the walking tour. A transfer is waiting to take you to the airport early in the morning. Of course, you will go home with a great experience and take another look at the medal you won at home!

The Dolmen Resort is situated on the shoreline of St. Paul's Bay and offers guests stunning sea views. The hotel's facilities are fantastic and offer both runners and supporters the opportunity to work towards the Malta International Challenge Marathon in a pleasant stay. The Dolmen Resort, for example, has a spa, with a sauna and a gym located within the hotel. All rooms are air-conditioned and many have a balcony or terrace overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. In the morning, you can make use of the extensive breakfast buffet.
You will stay in the Dolmen Resort together with all the other participants in this Challenge Marathon, which creates a sporty atmosphere in the hotel. From the hotel all participants go by bus to the different start- and finish locations or by foot on the days that the start- and finish are close to the hotel. These can also be booked for supporters at an additional cost. In the evenings you can enjoy the atmospheric St. Pauls Bay, where there are several restaurants and casinos.
