The race

You can't get any closer to the origin. The Athens Marathon is known as the authentic "Mother of Marathons" for a good reason. As soon as you start in the Marathon Village, you run a demanding course to the symbolic finish in the Panathinaikon Stadium, where today's first Olympic Games were held. From the 10 km point on, there are some meters of altitude to overcome. 10 km before the finish, in the suburbs of Athens, the course goes downhill again. This run can also be done as a power walk. The wonderful finish in the Panathinaikon Stadium makes the run over the hilly course more than worthwhile! On Saturday is also a 10K.

Weather

Quite fresh at the start (approx. 8-9 degrees), the temperature rises to a degree or 15-20 at the end of the morning.

Course

During the race there are quite a few altimeters to overcome, starting after the 10km-point. With still 10 kilometres to go, and now arriving in the suburbs of Athens, the course is descending again. This race can also be run as a Power Walk. The beautiful finish in the Panathinaikon stadium makes the race over the undulating course more than worth the effort!

Today the great adventure begins. You will fly to Athens. After arriving at the airport, you will be met by staff from Globalrunning who will accompany you during the transfer to your hotel.

Saturday, 08 November 2025

The day starts with an off-leash clinic of about 45 minutes (including stretching). There is time throughout the day to explore the city on your own. For example, you can take a look at the Acropolis of Athens, an ancient Greek temple. Tonight a pasta party for marathon participants. The 10km participants will start their lap of the Greek capital tonight! Don't make it too late this evening as the buses to Marathon leave early the next morning

The big day has arrived! Everyone will be picked up early in the morning by the bus, which leaves from the metro station. This bus will take you to the town of Marathon, where the start is also located. When you finish in Athens, you will receive a medal, a certificate and a cool t-shirt! You can plan the rest of the day as you like or just relax after your great achievement. At the end of the afternoon, we look back on the marathon via an after-marathon drink.

The day everyone returns home. Around 2pm is the transfer to the airport for the return trip. Everyone is a medal, a certificate, a t-shirt and a unique experience richer! The 4-star Hotel Ilissos combines pleasant facilities with a fantastic location in Athens. From the rooftop garden of the hotel you have a beautiful view of the Parthenon, while the hotel is only one and a half kilometres away. The Sygrou Fix tram and metro station is about an 8-minute walk from the hotel. From this metro station, among others, buses leave in the morning for the start of the marathon, while the finish line is only one stop away (near the Acropolis).
The Illisos is easily accessible by private or public transport. The many sights and the rest of the city are therefore easy to visit. The hotel's soundproofed rooms are stylishly furnished with attractive interiors and offer comfort and convenience. For example, the rooms have a fridge and air conditioning.
