The race

With 1829 metres of altitude difference, the fascinating Jungfrau Marathon is an exceptional run. It is not surprising that the course of this marathon is often described as "the most beautiful marathon course in the world". Throughout the run, marathon runners have views of mountains such as the Eiger, Mönch and of course the Jungfrau. The start is in Interlaken at 565 metres above sea level. The finish is on Kleine Scheidegg, at no less than 2095 metres. An ultimate challenge for the 4000 participants who travel to Switzerland from all over the world.

The Jungfrau Marathon is known as a tough marathon where you run many altimeters. A total of 1800 altitude metres are hidden in the course of this special marathon. The start is in the city of Interlaken and the finish is uphill, on the Kleine Scheidegg.

Wilkommen! After arriving in Interlaken, Switzerland, on your own, you can check in at Hotel Merkur or Bernerhof from 15:00. This is your accommodation during this running trip, which is all about nature, culture and, of course, the iconic Jungfrau Marathon. You can already explore the city of Interlaken or take a scenic tour of the beautiful surroundings. In the evening, you will have plenty of choice from the restaurant offerings in the area, where traditional dishes from the Alps are definitely not missing!

The big day has arrived! A quick breakfast and then it's on! The Jungfrau Marathon is on the programme today! You will start today at 08.30 from the centre of Interlaken and finish on the Kleine Scheidegg after conquering over 1800 metres altitude. By train, you can easily travel back to Interlaken.

In the centre of Interlaken, near the train station, is Hotel Merkur - West Station Lodge. For years, this hotel has welcomed guests to the beautiful Jungfrau region, where the city of Interlaken is located. From here, when travelling by car, you can easily visit some of the sights of the Jungfrau region, such as the Brienzers Sea (6-minute drive) and the Jungfrau Park (7-minute drive). For a fee, you can park near the hotel (about 8 CFH per day). If you come by train, it is only a 1-minute walk to Interlaken West Station.
The hotel offers a perfect base for a pleasant stay. The rooms are spacious and offer a private bathroom with a combination of bath and shower. In the morning, you can enjoy a continental breakfast overlooking the city on the terrace, the hotel's 5th floor. Several dining options can also be found in the vicinity of the hotel. In addition, Interlaken also has several shops and leisure facilities, which are within walking distance of the hotel.
