The race

The Lisbon Marathon has been running since 1991 and is known for its fairly flat course and fantastic atmosphere. Along the course there are many singing and dancing groups, which accompany the runners to the finish in a musical way. The ideal weather conditions in autumn often provide a very pleasant temperature to run the marathon. A fantastic running experience in Portugal! Is the marathon distance a little too long? Then the half marathon is also an option here.

Course

The route runs from Cascais to the center of Lisbon. It is invariably along the sea and river. The course is generally flat. There is a difference in height of 30 meters.

You will fly to Lisbon and travel to the hotel on your own. It is useful to buy a Lisbon pass, which gives you free access to public transport and several museums. Moreover, the pass allows you to get discounts at a number of shops and attractions. Some sights in Lisbon that are definitely worth visiting are: Torre Belém, Ponte 25 de Abril and Castelo São Jorge. Also highly recommended is touring Lisbon on the old tram 2. Through narrow streets and curves, this tram leads you through Lisbon's different neighbourhoods. You have a good chance of hearing Fado music in the background. This music genre originated in Lisbon and is often played live at terraces, bars and restaurants.

The day before the marathon can largely be filled in as you wish. You do need to set aside time to collect the start ticket. This is today's only obligation, after which you are as free as a bird and can explore Lisbon in your own way. Visit, for instance, the lively Bairro Alto district. Here you can enjoy the many restaurants, architecture and atmosphere. Enjoy the day and get a good rest, because tomorrow is the day of all days!

The day of truth. Today, the Lisbon Marathon is on the programme. This marathon begins in the morning and starts in Carcavelos. You can reach Carcavelos by train. Will you break your personal record today or will you encourage someone fanatically along the line? Right now, we won't know. What we do know is that you are going to have a unique experience, whether you are running or cheering. Each participant will receive a certificate and medal as a souvenir of the marathon. When the race is over, you can spend the day as you wish.
