  • Trip schedule

You will fly to Amman today. Please note that a visa is required for all visitors to Jordan. .A transfer to the Dead Sea follows and from the evening you are free to relax. No meals are included today.

Today we will wake up at the Dead Sea - the lowest point on earth - and start the day with a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Our day will be all about resting and relaxing by the pool or floating on the surface of the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea is truly unique, an enclosed lake bordering Jordan to the east and Israel to the west, known as one of the world's saltiest bodies of water. In fact, it is almost 10 times saltier than ordinary seawater, making it one of the most fascinating natural phenomena on earth. This extreme saltiness makes it impossible for plants and animals to thrive in it, hence the name. That said, the Dead Sea is sometimes considered the world's greatest spa, due to its healing properties. According to legend, Cleopatra would also visit the Dead Sea and use its products as part of her beauty regime. It is only fair that you can spend the whole day at this magical place. It is the perfect way to mentally prepare yourself for the challenge ahead. Meals : breakfast

After breakfast at our hotel, we will check out at 09:00 and travel by bus to Wadi Musa (Petra). Our journey will take about 6 hours. On arrival, we will immediately have lunch at a local restaurant, where we will eat all kinds of local delicacies, while waiting for our rooms to be ready for check-in at 15:00. After check-in, we will have a few hours to settle in and head out to explore the illustrious "Red Rose City of Petra". The hotel, located at the gate of Petra, means you are just a stone's throw away from this ancient Nabataean city carved out of the rocks. Remember, you will have exclusive access to the city tomorrow before it opens its doors to the public. We also have Sunday to explore this beautiful place. As the sun sets, all runners will gather in tomorrow's finish area, where the race officials and medical team will give the race briefing. In the evening, fill up on a pasta meal at our hotel's restaurant. Afterwards, you can return to your room to rest up for the big day. Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Today is the day we have all been waiting for! After an early wake-up call and a light continental breakfast, all runners meet outside the Petra Visitor Centre. At 05:15, all participants walk together through the Siq to the starting line at the Street of Gables. Since Petra is not open to the public at that time of day, runners will get the unique experience of seeing Petra without the crowds. The race starts at 06:30 for both half and full marathon runners. Although the Petra Desert Marathon is considered an official race and is run according to international race rules including timekeeping, it is important to remember that it is first and foremost an adventure marathon, where the experience, the scenery and the satisfaction at completion are more important than winning or setting a personal record. For a detailed description of the route, check out our Route & Elevation section. At the finish, refreshments and your medal await you. In the evening, we offer two optional local experiences - Petra Kitchen and Petra by Night - which can be booked in addition to the tour package. See the excursions at the bottom of the itinerary for more details. Meals: Breakfast and packed lunch

Today we get a chance to explore Petra's full glory. After breakfast, we walk to the Petra Visitor's Centre where we start our tour on foot and learn about the impressive history of yesterday's starting point. The main entrance to the historic and archaeological city of Petra is the Siq. With walls reaching up to 200 metres high, this narrow gorge, split apart by tectonic forces, winds 1.2 km through the mountains and ends at Petra's most elaborate temple, the Treasury. We walk through the Siq again and continue past the beautiful tombs and caves carved into the red sandstone cliff as our guide tells us about the ancient Nabataeans who founded the city. We spend some time exploring and buy lunch on our own before returning to our hotel. Depending on how much time you want to spend in Petra, you can also relax and recover from yesterday's efforts at one of the Turkish baths and spas in the area or just treat yourself at a local restaurant serving the incredibly delicious Jordanian cuisine. In the evening, all participants will head to the desert, where we will celebrate the completion of the Petra Desert Marathon with a festive celebration dinner. Dine, drink and dance under the stars. Meals: Breakfast and dinner

Unfortunately, our adventure in Jordan is over and it is time to say goodbye to this special country. Check-out from the hotel is due by 12:00 (noon). All participants will be transferred to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman for the return journey. Meals : breakfast

  • About Petra

As one of the seven modern wonders of the world, Petra is Jordan's most famous tourist attraction. Once the capital of the Nabataeans, it was rediscovered in 1812 by the Swiss Johann Ludwig Burckhardt and in 1985 it was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List. After the trade routes along Petra had changed, the city was slowly abandoned. What remains are the ruins, which can still be seen today. When visiting Petra you can look for monuments such as Al Khazneh (the treasury) and Ad Deir (the monastery). A walk to the top of the mountains gives you a beautiful view over the valley where Petra is located. Near Petra is the town of Wadi Musa, where you will find several restaurants and entertainment facilities.
