Arrive at Amman Airport and transfer to the Dead Sea. The rest of the day is at leisure.
Thursday, 04 September 2025
Today we wake up at the Dead Sea - the lowest point on earth - and start the day with a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Our day will be dedicated to resting and relaxing by the pool or floating on the surface of the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea is truly unique, an enclosed lake bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel to the west, and known as one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world. In fact, it is almost 10 times saltier than regular seawater, making it one of the most fascinating natural phenomena on earth. This extreme saltiness makes it impossible for plants and animals to thrive in it, hence its name. That said, the Dead Sea is sometimes considered the greatest spa in the world, due to its healing properties. Legend has it that Cleopatra would also visit the Dead Sea and use its products as part of her beauty regime. It is only fair that you can spend the entire day in this magical place. It is the perfect way to mentally prepare yourself for the challenge that lies ahead. You have the opportunity to join our full day tour of some of Jordan’s historical and cultural highlights: Mt. Nebo, Madaba and Baptism Site. It is an extraordinary excursion packed with knowledge from our experienced tour guides. Costs are €130 pp. Meals: Breakfast

After breakfast at our hotel, we will check out at 09:00 and drive by bus to Wadi Musa (Petra). Our journey will take approximately 6 hours. Upon arrival, we will immediately have lunch at a local restaurant, where we will eat all kinds of local delicacies, while we wait for our rooms to be ready for check-in at 15:00. After checking in, we will have a few hours to settle in and head out to explore the infamous “Red Rose City” of Petra. Situated at the gates of Petra, the hotel means you will be just a stone’s throw away from this ancient Nabataean rock-hewn city. Don’t forget, tomorrow you will have exclusive access to the city before it opens its doors to the public. We also have Sunday to explore this beautiful place. As the sun sets, all the runners will meet at tomorrow’s finish area where the race officials and medical team will give the race briefing. In the evening, we can gorge ourselves on a pasta meal in our hotel restaurant. Afterwards, you can head back to your room to rest up for the big day. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Today is the day we have all been waiting for! After an early wake-up call and a light continental breakfast, all the runners will meet outside the Petra Visitor Center. At 05:15 all participants will run together through the Siq to the starting line at the Street of Facades. As Petra is not open to the public at this time of day, runners will have the unique experience of seeing Petra without the crowds. The race starts at 06:30 for both half (25KM) and full marathon runners. Although the Petra Desert Marathon is considered an official race and is run according to international race rules including timekeeping, it is important to remember that it is first and foremost an adventure marathon, where the experience, the scenery and the satisfaction of completing it are more important than winning or setting a personal best. For a detailed description of the route, please see our Route & Elevation section. Refreshments and your medal will be waiting for you at the finish. In the evening we offer an optional local experience - Petra Kitchen (2.5 hours) - which can be booked as an addition to the tour package. Costs are €55 pp. Meals: Breakfast and packed lunch

Today we have the chance to explore Petra in all its glory. After breakfast we walk to the Petra Visitor's Center where we begin our guided tour on foot and learn about the impressive history of yesterday's starting point. The main entrance to the historical and archaeological city of Petra is the Siq. With walls reaching up to 200 meters high, this narrow gorge, split apart by tectonic forces, winds for 1.2 km through the mountains, ending at Petra's most elaborate temple, the Treasury. We walk through the Siq again and continue past the magnificent tombs and caves carved into the red sandstone cliff face as our guide tells us about the ancient Nabataeans who founded the city. We spend some time exploring the area and purchase lunch on our own before returning to our hotel. Depending on how much time you want to spend in Petra, you can also relax and recover from yesterday’s strenuous efforts in one of the Turkish baths and spas in the area or simply treat yourself to some of the incredibly delicious Jordanian cuisine in a local restaurant. In the evening, all participants will head to the desert, where we will celebrate the completion of the Petra Desert Marathon with a festive celebration dinner. Dine, drink and dance under the stars. Meals: Breakfast and Dinner

As one of the seven modern wonders of the world, Petra is Jordan's most famous tourist attraction. Once the capital of the Nabataeans, it was rediscovered in 1812 by the Swiss Johann Ludwig Burckhardt and in 1985 it was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List. After the trade routes along Petra had changed, the city was slowly abandoned. What remains are the ruins, which can still be seen today. When visiting Petra you can look for monuments such as Al Khazneh (the treasury) and Ad Deir (the monastery). A walk to the top of the mountains gives you a beautiful view over the valley where Petra is located. Near Petra is the town of Wadi Musa, where you will find several restaurants and entertainment facilities.
