Running through the active volcanic zone where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet, the Iceland Volcano Marathon is a unique event! Runners will go directly through the Northern Volcanic Zone in the north of Iceland during the very first edition of this marathon. The area includes geysers, black volcanic sand, glaciers and small volcanic craters. This geothermal area is still active today and offers the prospects for an experience you will never forget. The roads are not paved, making this an adventure marathon. Is the marathon distance a bit too long? Then you can also opt for the half marathon!

The start of the walking tour! You fly with Icelandair from Amsterdam to Reykjavik (14:10-15:25) Once you have arrived in Iceland, you will make your own way to the Cabin Reykajvik hotel, where you will spend the first night of the walking tour. The rest of the evening you will have the opportunity to get to know this interesting city a little better. With almost 24 hours of daylight in the summer, Reykjavik is often described as a city that doesn't sleep in the summer! In the evening you can enjoy the culinary side of the Icelandic capital.

Arrival in Mývatn. After an early breakfast at the hotel, the bus departs along the beautiful west coast of Iceland. During the ride, a guide tells us about Iceland and its impressive nature. In the afternoon, we arrive in Akureyri, better known as the 'capital of the north'. This city is only 100 km from the Arctic Circle! A race briefing takes place here, where you will also be provided with a race package and a meal. After the briefing, the bus continues to Mývatn, where hotel Vogafjos Farm Resort is located.

Optional excursion and free time. Today you have the entire day to acclimatize to the Icelandic climate in preparation for the big day tomorrow. You can also consider taking part in one of the optional excursions. A discovery of the area around Mývatn or a whale safari near Húsavík are options on request! You can also choose to spend the day as you wish. A walk or bike ride through the beautiful region are examples of how to spend your free time pleasantly. In the evening a pasta dinner is served at the hotel. Have a good rest tonight, because tomorrow the challenging Iceland Volcano Marathon or Half Marathon is on the program!

The big day! The premiere of the Iceland Volcano (Half) Marathon! You will be taken by bus to the start of the marathon and half marathon. The runners will be on their way on the unpaved paths and roads around the majestic Hverfjall crater during this challenging and unique marathon. The dramatic background, the active volcanic area of Northern Iceland, where all this takes place is absolutely enchanting! After the finish, the runners of the full and half marathon will be served a well-deserved BBQ lunch. You will be taken back to your hotel by shuttle. There you can relax after today's performances! Breakfast and BBQ lunch are included today.

Rest and celebration dinner. Today the whale safari takes place. Late in the afternoon we leave for the small village of Laugar to celebrate yesterday's achievements with a festive dinner. Breakfast and celebration dinner are included. Lunch is only included in the optional excursions.

Back to Reykjavik. After an early breakfast, buses leave for the city center of Reykjavik. Today you will stay one last time in Iceland, in the Cabin hotel. Breakfast and lunch box are included today.

The end of your walking tour! You will make your own way to the airport for your return flight to Amsterdam (10:30-15:45). We wish you a safe journey home and hope that you have gained an unforgettable experience.
We do not offer transport for this arrangement by default. However, we do offer the option to book flights with us. Prices will vary if you choose to make use of our service.
